Deep-level concerns include the ethical and legal implications of eugenics. The pursuit for the perfect child could create another civil rights movement between genetically-modified humans and natural born humans, which will become a catalyst for discrimination, economic inequality and more. Furthermore, there will be social controversies like “three-parent babies,” the possible changes of parental responsibilities as viewed by future society, and the concept of diversity being obliterated as a societal concept. Civil responsibility of the parent for their child could also be fogged in the future by confusion, since children will be considered replaceable, like a piece of merchandise. Imagine businesses opening similar to “Build a Bear Workshop,” a business built on designing the perfect bear. Can we, as humanity, survive knowing that our children was designed by us to be our “bear.” Not only, will there be the possibility of humanity being damaged on a genetic level, but on a social and legal level. As a result, Eugenics should not be pursued.
