Please help; I am seriously confusing myself. My data is below followed by question(s) that are stumping me. The Given dilution formula (C1V1 = C2V2) in the question does not match what is in my lab handout which is (A1A2 = C1C2) is it possible one is wrong. I do not necessarily need all three questions answered - please show me how to set up one and I should be able to set up & deduce the others!

Experiment 2: Measure Absorbance versus Concentration for Each Dye

Placed four clean cuvettes on the workbench.

Filled each cuvette with the amounts 0.020 mM Yellow 5 dye stock solution & water as shown in the table below.

Dye Solution Water % Dye

cuvette 1 10.0mL none 100%

cuvette 2 7.5mL 2.5mL 75%

cuvette 3 5.0mL 5.0mL 50%

cuvette 4 2.5mL 7.5mL 25%

Yellow 5 dye

Cuvette #1

Wavelength = 440 absorbance = 0.48

Cuvette #2

Wavelength = 440 absorbance = 0.36

Cuvette #3

Wavelength = 440 absorbance = 0.24

Cuvette #4

Wavelength = 440 absorbance = 0.12

What was the concentration of the food dyes in cuvette 1? You can use the dilution formula below.

C1V1 = C2V2

A. 0.20 mM

B. 0.010mM

C. 0.020 mM

D. 0.0050 mM

What was the concentration of the food dyes in cuvette 2? You can use the dilution formula below.

C1V1 = C2V2

A. 0.0050 mM

B. 0.015 mM

C. 0.020 mM

D. 0.20 mM

What was the concentration of the food dyes in cuvette 3? You can use the dilution formula below.

C1V1 = C2V2

A.0.20 mM

B.0.010 mM

C.0.020 mM

D.0.0050 mM
