Adenosine monophosphate is a regulatory molecule in metabolic processes such a glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. for example, it stimulates the glycolytic enzyme phosphofructokinase, and therefore ATP production, and it inhibits the gluconeogenic enzyme fructose 1,6 bisphosphatase.
