Week 1 , tn a 50 mL round-bottomed flask and in the fume hood, add 5.50 mL of isoamyl alcohol and 6.00 mL of acetic acid. Cautiously add 1.00 mL of sulfuric acid (Caution: Corrosive). Add boiling stones. 2 times 5ã t-up to reflux your reaction by clamping your flask to a support at your bench. Use an iron 2. Set ring to support the heating mantle. Make sure the heating mantle is plugged into a variable transformer. Attach a condenser to the flask. You do not need to clamp the condenser. Start gentle flow of water through the condenser and reflux your reaction for I hour. Hask 3. At the end of the reflux period, cool the fläsk with an ice-water bath. When cool, pour the contents of the flask into a 60 mL jar and secure with lid provided with jar. The jars are found on the reagent bench. You will store your reaction mixture in your drawer. When you finish with the jar the second week, you will wash out the jar and return to the reagent bench.
