B. Stereoisomers You should be familiar with chirality, chiral center, drawing a chiral center and assigning the configurations of R and S using Cahn-Ingold-Prelog system, and Fisher projection of the chiral molecules. 1. Make models of 2-chlorobutane that are mirror image of each other (enantiomers of 2-chlorobutane), identify each as R and S. try to super impose one on the other. Draw the enantiomers. (R)-2-chlorobutane (S)-2-chlorobutane 2. Draw the structural formula of 3-bromo-2-chloropentane. Identify the chiral carbons with asterisks. Using 2 formula (n is number of chiral centers) calculate the number of stereoisomers. Construct 2 pairs of mirror images. Take one pair of the enantiomers, compare it with the either of the models of the second pair of enantiomers. Are these two molecules mirror images? Draw the fisher projections of the four stereoisomers. Stereoisomers which are not mirror images are called diastreomers. ldentify diasteromers
