Organic chemistry is a branch of chemistry that is based on the chemistry of carbon. Answer the following questions based on the models you built containing carbon as one of the central atoms.

a) What types of hybridization did you find in these molecules (around C)?

b) What was the most common type of hybridization around a central carbon?

c) For the most common hybridization how many total domains were there? How many of these were bonding domains? How many were non-bonding (lone pairs)?

Answer question one for molecules containing oxygen as one of the central atoms.

Answer question one for molecules containing nitrogen as one of the central atoms.

Here are several oxygen containing molecules that include oxygen to oxygen bonds. Draw the Lewis structure for each one based on the suggested framework.

a) Ozone, O3 ( not in a ring) O—O—O

b) hydrogen peroxide, H2O2 H—O—O—H

c) How does the electronic geometry and molecular shape of ozone differ from the other oxy- gen containing compounds that you have considered?

d) Do you think that geometry of ozone affects its reactivity? Look up ozone and its chemistry. Report your source and a few things you discover about the reactivity of ozone. Be sure that you use you own words to summarize. Do not plagiarize!
