Hi! Could you help me with these problems please?
Look up the structures of biphenyl, benzhydrol and benzophenone in PubChem, and draw the skeletal structures below and in your lab notebook. Based on the skeletal structures in your answer to Question 1 above, for a given TLC eluent, which of the three compounds would you expect to travel further on the TLC plate, and why? Copy your prediction in your lab notebook. Suppose that you attempt to separate a mixture of the three compounds on a TLC plate, using a particular eluent, and the three spots all have very high R_f values. However, the R_f values are so similar that the spots do not effectively separate. How would you change the experiment to achieve a better separation between the three compounds?
