50 ml methanol ,25 ml of pinacolone,1 g of sodium borohydride all were reacted within a 250 ml

roundflask submerged within an ice 50 ml methanol ,25 ml of pinacolone,1 g of sodium borohydride all were reacted within a 250 ml roundflask submerged within an ice bath. Subsequently, we added the resulted product in a 1 litet separatory funnel with 250 ml of MTBE, and 200 ml of saturated chloride. At the sight of precipitation we added water and eventually collected the organic extract layer and stored it with 2g of sodium sulfate combine with while discarding the other aqueous layer.

The following week we purified the collected organic sample. Our first collected distillate was MTBE while the second was weighed to be 7.87 grams. I would like to see if anyone would be kind to explained what exactly went on and also provide detailed calculations of our percent yield? Theoretical val? percent of error? And an inference of the two obtained ir spectrum values?Thank you very much :)
