Consider a simple cubic crystal of identical atoms of diameter 0.32 nm (nanometers).

What is the diameter, in nm, of an interstitial impurity that would fit exactly between the host atoms, achieving a coordination number of 8 ?

In other words, the impurity fits exactly in the middle of the simple cubic unit cell and is simultaneously tangent to the 8 surrounding host atoms.
