An enzyme catalyzes conversion of substrate to product with a Vmax of 10 nM/sec and a Km of 2 mM.

a) What is the initial velocity predicted to be when teh substrate concentration is 1.7 mM?

b) Your lab partner has done this measurement in lab and has come up with the value of 0.001 nM/sec. Given your lab partner's long history of messing stuff up, you took steps to insulate the experiment from potential damage. You made all the solutions. You insured the reaction buffer was at the correct pH. You double-checked his calculations. All your partner really did was plop the enzyme into the reaction and read the data that came out. But something still happened. What aretwo ways the enzyme assay could have been screwed up to attain a number like this one? Explain your answer.

c) If you remade everything from scratch and tried the reaction once more. This time, you now notice the substrate is beginning to precipitate out of solution in the enzyme reaction as your partner is running his assay. How would this precipitation effect your measurement of Vmax and/or Km?
