Background and context
The replication of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) continues from the origin of replication and forms a replication fork as it moves forward. At the replication fork, there are two strands: the leading and the lagging strand. The leading strand is synthesized continuously while the lagging strand is synthesized in short pieces of DNA called the Okazaki fragments.
