If the walker comes down center from the rope the gravitational force exerts a torque that causes the rotation of the walker about the feet.

The rotational inertia is inversely proportional to the angular acceleration, therefore, as the rotational inertia increases the acceleration decreases. 

Due to this the walker will have more time.
