Introduction to disease (refer to pg 8, 9 in textbook) Incubation period: time period where the parasite is doing something, its replicating so it can cause harm to the host, kind of replication, activity is happening: latent period: inactive period where nothing can be seen, May 10th 2011: e. g. agent-psychosocial, biological, source that cause harm, e. g. environment: air, water, e. g. triad- a person develops severe cramps after drinking water on a cattle farm, host: person, environment: well water, agent: nutrition, Modes of disease transmission: direct: person to person. Indirect: vector, route of transmission, contaminated water or mosquito: malaria: doesn"t move from one person to another directly, mosquito is the vector, indirect transmission. Portal of entry: dermal- through the skin, e. g. fungus.
