Important implications for the size, nature, and organization of political units. How would political units redesigned if you were to increase participation. Expand range of sites for democratic decision making. Don"t think about it in respects of the current system, think of a total reorganized political system. Places where democracy is not usually found in our everyday lives. After participatory budgeting of community projects, the democracy spread to other areas. Vs liberal view basis: a highly restricted political sphere subject to collective decision-making, all spheres of life are politicised and subject to participation. Must have roughly an equivalent experience of life and life"s conditions (struggling people are unlikely to participate) Other models are accepting of inequality of outcome, more focussed on equality of opportunity. Liberal response to participatory democracy: would not trust a collective group the power to make decisions for the individuals. Individuals are the best judge of their own interests, not the group.
