There are parables plus two explanation of parables and two explanations of why parables. This is where we find the most parables together. Parables are like extended metaphors which can be very brief (1-2 lines in length). They can also be very long developing a long story, parable of the prodigal son. (merciful father) Sometimes they don"t make sense they are just too much. Three of the parables here come from mark. First is of the sower who went out to sow the seed. Answer: people respond to the gospel in different ways. The paradox of doing things that isn"t going to do much initially but will do a lot in the long run. The disciples asked why jesus speaks to them in parables. Everything comes in parables in order for that so that you may not understand. Feeding of the 5,000 the loaves and the fish, there two versions of it in mark and matthew.
