Twin studies correlation in iq scores between identical terms is compared to twin. Flynn effect iq scores have been steadily increasing due to environment. Old times assumed to be demons (trephening) Just a place out of the way with no heat etc. Proposes that abnormal behaviour should be viewed as a disease and treated as one. A behaviour in and of itself cannot be deemed abnormal, it needs to be in context. Trying to define abnormal behaviour: statistical frequency, deviates from social norms (milgram"s study on obedience) Diagnostic statistical manual of mental disorders: maladaptive behaviours that fail to promote personal growth, experiencing distress. Diagnosis: matching a person"s symptoms to pre-existing psychological disorders, attempting to give proper therapy and giving a prognosis. Prognosis prediction about the possible course the illness will take: personality tests are a secondary system never used on their own, multi-axial system of diagnosis. Used to record the disorder from the dsm.
