Document Summary

Social darwinism: darwinism is the survival of the fittest. only the strongest survive : dominant world view= tied to darwinian way of thinking- social darwinism. Lombroso: people are not made into criminals but are born criminals- biological determinism. A problem of this individual way of thinking is: if it is certain that social problems like crime arte the result of individual (physical) deficiencies, then it is not necessary to be concerned with the social structure. Psychological theories see crime as being caused but the personality of the individual offender. Social leaning: mimicking things; only one way on how to handle a situaution. Lomborso: classification based on racial and biological differences. Female crimes: it is deemed that she was more like a man then a woman. Genetic research and the dreaded xyy chromosome theory: criminality is deviant genetic makeup. Essential to the nature of the individual not the social structure.
