Document Summary

Explain why or why not persepolis should be considered a feminist text. Persepolis should be considered a feminist text, because the main character, marjane, was raised to think for herself. She did whatever she could to pursue her own education. She spoke up against things that she found sexist or unfair. For example, she spoke up against being forced to wear the head scarf or when she stood up to the police men about her butt jiggling when she ran. Marjane speaks up against the injustices that she sees. She was never afraid to speak her mind, even if that meant that it would upset the authority. For example, she argued with the nuns when they said something racist to her. She takes her life into her own hands at many times and questions social injustices. Also, in the graphic novel, the separation of the classes was briefly addressed.
