Lithostatic pressure( ): the strong con ning pressure that press the objects deep buried within earth"s crusts. Pressure gradient: the increase in lithostatic pressure with depth, in approximately 1 kpa/3. 3 km of burial in crust rock. Quatizite( ): produced when grains of quartz in sandstone are welded together while the rocks in subjected to high temperature. Gneiss( ): a rock consisting and dark mineral layers or lenses. Contact metamorphism (thermal metamorphism)( ): metamorphism in which high temperature is the dominant factor.
