Document Summary

Cells and cell products forming skeletal muscle: muscle cells aka muscle fibers. Muscle fibres bundled up in muscle fascicles. Muscle fascicles bundled up into skeletal muscle: blood vessels, nerve. As is the entire muscle = connective tissue is one unit, becomes tendons at the end of the muscle which connects the muscle to bones. Connective tissue made mostly of collagen(tough, dense fiber) and elastin. Most of muscle cell contains contractile cytoskeletal elements myofibrils. Myofibrils are collection of contractile filaments that bring about muscle contraction. Transverse tubules (t-tubules): made of membrane in close contact with sacroplasmic reticulum, connect to the cell"s membrane. run from surface of cell down to the center. Myofibrils contain two types of contractile filaments: thin filaments: Only have one kind of protein = myosin molecule (golf-club looking, with two heads) Thick and thin filaments held together in an interlaced 3d lattice, parallel to the long axis of the muscle cell. Thick running between thin filaments vice versa.
