Psychopathology is a sign of possession; however, this model has been abandoned for the most part. Abnormality caused by physical problems in the brain: something physically wrong with the individuals brain or nervous system. Began with relationship between syphilis and mental symptoms: causing damage to their brains leading to mental symptoms. : mercury, external agent terminology: implies that it has a physical problem. Nervous breakdown something broken down physically in your nervous system. : neurochemistry in depression, treatment increase the activity of neurotransmitters; however the cause is uncertain. Abnormal thoughts, behaviours, caused by unconscious conflict. Not a physical defect in the brain or nervous system but a psychological dilemma, unresolved unconscious conflict. Same processes in normalcy, abnormality: normal processes but bad outcome, maladaptive behaviour, thought and feeling. Behavioural model: there is not underlying problem; however, they are experiencing abnormal behaviours. Abnormal behaviours are the disorder not symptoms.
