Photosensitive ganglion cells are stimulated and melanopsin (blue light) is also seen. Darkness removes the inhibition, resulting in more melatonin, therefore we feel tired. Jet lag and shift work: phase advance more difficult than phase delay. Jury is still out, don"t know if it works or is safe. Consciousness: the awareness of the relationship between the self and the external world, monitoring. Tip of the tongue: subconsous level. But may leak out from time to time: freudian slips. A happy person never fantasizes, only an unhappy one. Safety valve: escape from life, alters mood in positive way. Stages of sleep: during sleep, body begins to shut down. Temperature drops: marked decrease in sensitivity to external stimulation.
