What a government is for: life, liberty, property. Picks up the plato critique for rhetoric, still comes from somewhere different. Language: it conveys our thoughts to one another, it is done clearly, and it explains things: augustine. Picked up on a big scientific discovery- darwinism. A good style is an efficient style. Bad writing is when you have to read a sentence more than once. English words are shorter and more efficient so they can lead to good writing style.
