Actors beyond the state that can influence societies. The effect of globalization forces us to use the term global governance: different actors come together to establish the goal from their different states. Developing countries need to go under state adjustments to receive aid, which is an infringement on the sovereignty of that state. The concept of sovereignty was born in 1648, treaty of westphalia to end conflicts: birthed the modern sovereign state. States are less independent because of the rising globalization of goods essential for living and living at the comfortable state of some societies. Relies on centralized control and authority (ex. Central authority resides over subordinates subordinates who have responsibilities: top-down system . Drawbacks: ineffective and time-constraining, no room to innovation, networks. Bring actors together & established collaborative relationships. Sustainability = building long term relationships: more egalitarian, informal , Human global compact: different actors fighting to achieve the same goals, markets. A virtual environment that houses trade & relations.
