Therefore the tissue damage is the intervening variable: conditional variable, the relationship between x and y can be changed depending on the 3rd variable. Qualitative: words, images, objects, signs & symbols. Researcher knows in advance what they are looking for. All aspects of the design are designed before the study. Seen as more objective and seeks precise measurements. Seen as more efficient (the use of surveys are faster than interviews) The methods used are more time efficient and less costly. Knows roughly what they are looking for. The design emerges as the study unfolds. Seen as more subjective - more interested in looking at interpreting events.
