The great awakening: ministers trying to legitimized economic development, people actually became less religious, so to speak. Everything is between you and god church not really needed. No one is more godly than thou. Ministers start arguing and bashing the other: guilt people into going to church. Without people going to church, it doesn"t hold any worth: balance of power shifts away from religion, government starts to become separate of religion, diminishment of political and social power. Lower class people and women were two groups that really took to the ideas of tga: totes okay to get up and out of this life style. Sons who didn"t receive much from dad took to the idea of tga. Tga connects to revolution: questioning of authority, those who represent the colonials needed to represent their interests not aristocracy. Tga to enlightenment: god wasn"t the answer to everything, age of reason. Late 1700: american and french revolutions (plus end of enlightenment)
