Schools accomplish two main tasks: homogenizing and sorting. Homogenize young people by socializing them into a shared culture. Sorting young people into different levels of certification and ultimately different social classes. Educational achievement is the learning of valuable skills and knowledge. Educational attainment is the number of years of successfully completed or degrees or certificates earned. Higher the education the less chance of unemployment. Education is both a cause and effect of national wealth: It effects it because it requires a huge investment in time and money for education. Sociologists highlight four factors of rise in mass schooling: The protestant reformation: priest believed that the bible and church isn"t going to recruit. Christianity instead need priest to go out and educate people. Democracy: the rise of democracy led to free education for all children.
