The relationship is rather awkward between the two countries: compared to the rest of the world, canada is one of the best countries in the world. Its economy is 11th in the world, its population is 37th in the world, and the military is 19th in the world. In historical context: britain has had a big influence on canada, and pushed canada to become an independent nation. Britain helped canada get onto the international scale of affairs, and thus canada is very important to date. Some of the biggest political arguments arise from where canada"s place should be in the world: canada is a member of the united nations and has won awards based on peacekeeping (lester pearson). General assembly and helped simmer down the suez crisis.
