Health science chapter 7- the unhealthy canadian workplace. Work linked to one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality (i. e. due to stress) The shift to a post-industrial society with better educations and workforce should be associated with better health but it is not. Reasonable wages, non-wage benefits, job security, opportunities for advancement, content of work that is asked, safety (72%), work-life balance (63%), Ekos/cprn survey of changing employment relationships (key part of the indicators of job quality in canada) says that workers want personally rewarding work, enjoying autonomy on the job and the ability to exercise/ develop skills and capacities. 7 key dimensions: security, conditions, pace/ stress, working time, opportunities for self- expression and individual development at work, participation at work, work-life balance. Terms of employment (wages, benefits, hours etc) reflect the relative bargaining power of workers and employers and the related willingness of governments to establish minimum rights and standards.
