He can be seen as the rxn to the church. He argues against the classic view that people are rational. In 1503, while he was a bureaucrat in florence, he met a genius that will highly influence his political thoughts, leonardo da vinci. After meeting him, he was initiated into scientific thoughts. Even scholars today wonder whether or not that machiavelli and hobbes were believed in god or were atheists, since they opposed the church"s oppression. He rejects plato, as already mentioned, because plato promotes idealism while. He saw a division between the church & politics, between god & Some then saw him as an anti-christ, despite him probably being a christian overall.
