Media used for shared value and consensus. We need more canadian content on tv as american tv is eroding canadian identity. How we create society on our everyday micro-level interaction. How are people created sense of community through interactions. We have created personalized communities (online community) that are unique to each one of us. Media serves use of ruling class as ruling class controls medias and how ideas and values get produced. Horkheimer and adorno: mass deception doesn"t encourage us to be critical thinker. Herman and chomsky: propaganda model mass media expresses views of ruling class to reduce people protesting. It gives one sided view and is filtering out views against ruling class. Chomsky wrote manufacturing consent and argues that mass media is controlled by small number of people and the main function is to promote people with economic power.
