SOCIOL 2S06 Lecture : Lecture 41 - March 20th
Document Summary
Some radical feminists, including firestone, have suggested the need for a revolution so that women can gain control over their reproduction: women have to be free from their biological reproductive capacity, believe that natural reproduction needs to be replaced through the use of new reproductive technologies, other radical feminists have suggested separatism (eliminating men and traditional family structures from the lives of women, women need to be separated from men and the traditional patriarchal system that oppresses them, some feminists might encourage lesbianism. Empirical evidence and radical feminism: empirical evidence questions some of the theoretical ideas that radical feminists have about patriarchy, most radical feminists see patriarchy as something has existed in all societies throughout history, see it as being universal and existed there since the beginning of time, however this does not appear to be the case, a great deal of empirical evidence suggests that gender oppression was either non existent or minimal in foraging societies.
