He found many mayan books and burned them as he wanted to convert the mayan. He also preserved a lot of the lore while trying to exterminate it. He thought he was getting alphabet letters not syllables. In the old world, domestication of plants went hand-in-hand with the domestication of animals (goats, sheep, cows, horses herd animals) In the new world (meso-america), most of the large mammals have been killed off so there was little domestication of animals. There are no horses, cows, chickens, goats, pigs, etc. They do not exist in the new world and thus have not been domesticated. In the andes, they have llamas, but those are the exception and you can"t ride a llama as an adult. They don"t have a proximity of encounters and thus there is less disease. For thousands of years in the old world there was a spread of diseases throughout the old world.
