Light is life: red light: signifies quality. Phytocrhomes: germination/flower/photomorphogenesis, light is a signal to drive these things. If there is no light around it is a waste of resource: better off to elongate. It matters what you end on! Clicker: you think ft protein is translocated from leaves to apical meristems to induce flowering. Auto phosphorylates, then transfers the phosphate to another molecule and now that is active. Plants don"t function like that they do autophosphorylate but it isn"t very convincing. Phytochromobilin (memorize this name) Functions as a dimer. In arabidopsis, another inhibitor, spt, suppresses germination until cold signal (stratification) In some species until there is a cold period it will suppress germination: remove requirement. Enough for many seeds that require seeds that need red light to germinate. Certain species (small seed reserves) make sure germination will be successful.
