A lot of people said they evolved faster, therefore better then the other people: early theories were racist and ethnocentric with europe as the center of civilization and human achievement, they justified the exploitation of foreign cultures, some anthropologists supported the exploitation of native populations while others condemned it. Cultural evolution and race: lewis henry morgan proposed the following theory to account for, unilineal evolution: diversity of human cultures: held that all human ways of life go through a similar sequence of stages in their development, a form of cultural determinism, lower savagery, middle savagery (had fire but lacked the bow and arrow, upper savagery (had bow and arrow but lacked pottery, lower barbarism (had pottery but did not domesticate, middle barbarism (domesticated but did not smelt metals, upper barbarism (used metals but no writing systems, civilization (only stage to be literate) only europeans and view had this.
