Perception- the active process of selecting, organizing, and interpreting people, objects, events, situations, and activities. Perception consists of three steps: selection- noticing certain things and ignoring others within total context. When interpreting experiences, we ask why something happens or why someone says or does or doesn"t do a particular thing. Selective exposure/selective attention- selecting the things that you find important around you and selecting the things that you want to pay attention to.
