Document Summary

Case of dall sheep: predation by wolves (should the wolf population be reduced?) Dall sheep follow type 1 survivorship curve : mortality high at end of life. Not all organisms follow the same survivorship curve (type 1) A rotifer ( 1 mm worm) has low survivorship rates as it ages, once they reach six days mortality increases significantly (type 1) Birds-irrespective death irrespective of age (death occurring all the time) type 2. As they age mortality decreases (most mortality at the beginning) Type 1: juvenile survival high, mortality mostly among old individuals. Type 2: individuals die at equal rates irrespective to age. Type 3: great loss of individuals at early age, good survivorship later in life. Age structure: cottonwood: individuals/ population high later (40"s) - dying population. Age structure: cactus finch (galapagos): age structure allows reconstructing population history and predicting its future: age increases from 1-11, time is measured in the opposite direction.
