Gender differences in friendships (early research: women spend more time talking with friends as opposed to engaging in shared activities, men find more friendship through involvement with shared activities, self disclosure is important to women (telling another person about yourself, females have less extensive but more intensive friendship networks (women believe they have fewer friends but closer, men have greater but not as close, women: face to face friendships (verbal intimacy, men: side by side (shared activities) Educational institutions: formal knowledge, teaching society"s values, preparation for future work roles, professional skills, soft skills: interpersonal skills, meeting deadlines, being on time, pretending to be interested. Compassionate care program (2004) takes care of you if you"re sick: your child or the child of your spouse or common law partner (of at least one year, your wife/husband or common law partner, your father/mother, your fathers wife/mothers husband, the common law partner of your father/mother.
