Power structures present in the husband-wife dynamic in a similar way that is present in doctor- mother dynamics in the us. Creation of slums in the process of globalization of factory workers living on site. Denial of continuing structural inequalities present in current capitalist societies. Certain behaviours or conditions are given medical meaning - defined in terms of health and illness. Medical practice becomes a vehicle for eliminating or controlling behaviour that is defined as adeviant, so as a form of social regulation. It can be a form of control that works around the notion that there is a healthy norm. There are many apparatuses that go with the medical framework. Power exercised not through direct coercion or violence but rather by persuading people that certain ways of behaving and thinking are appropriate for them. We become convinced that there is an acceptable way of doing things. Avoid: simplistic notions of power hierarchy rather than circulating.
