Female labour force participation rates have been increasing while male rates has been declining. Labour force includes all persons who are either employed or unemployed. Employed- the number of persons 15 years of age and older who have jobs. Unemployed- the number of persons 15 years of age and older who are not employed and who are actively searching for a job. Labour force participation rate- is equal to the number of people in a particular group whose members are in the labour force divided by the total number of people in the group. Trends- male participation rates began to decline in the 1950s from 86% in 1950 to 74% in 2003.
