Chapter 5 the research methods of biopsychology. Methods of visualizing the human brain (7 methods: contrast x-rays. The cerebral circulatory system is displayed on an x-ray by injecting radio opaque dye into a cerebral artery: x-ray computed tomography (ct, computer assisted x-ray, patient lies with head positioned in center of large cylinder. The cylinder projects an x-ray beam through the head to an x-ray detector on the other side. As the cylinder rotates, it takes many x-ray photographs, which a computer combines to generate a ct scan. It was the first technique to provide functional brain images: radioactive substance is injected into carotid artery.
