Oceanic crust high density, underlies oceans, wants to sink back down into the plastic grounds underneath, and makes floors slowly sink. Continental crust thicker, floating on mantle below. Moho" refers to the base of the crust. Asthenosphere weak sphere, hot, plastic, underneath the plates, and helps plates move around. Plate movements talking about the crust and the upper part of the athenosphere moving together that enables the plates to move around. Deeper interior of the planet is a result of geophysics application of physical principles to the earth. Fault scarp in japan: road disappears where the steep slope is, road use to be leveled but an earthquake moved it, very damaging. Japanese started building brick building and many fell down during the earthquake. Fault scarp seen in excavation: line is where blocks have moved and what triggers earthquake, 6m of offset, dangerous fault with recurring movements, trigger earthquakes every 50-100 years.
