The image of conflict has been attractive to religion believers because they use it to portray themselves as a righteous religious minority, who struggle heroically to protect their faith, going against science and materialism. Scientists such as isaac newton also saw their work as trying to understand gods creation. Large number of scientists continue to see their research as a complement rather than a challenge to their faith. Science and religion debates are about intellectual compatibility. For science, only little of what you know is based directly in your observations, and those only make sense with existing facts and theories. The real conflict between science and religion is about the dissemination (distribution) and production of knowledge. Debates about science and religion give certain groups an opportunity to argue their case for greater social influence and for greater control if education, which rests on political grounds.
