Occipital lobe: back of the brain, contains primary visual cortex. Primary visual cortex: receives visual information, occipital lobe. Primary auditory cortex: receives auditory information, temporal lobe. Primary somatosensory cortex: vertical strip in the middle of the cerebral hemisphere, parietal lobe, receives information from the body senses, left side of the hemisphere controls right hand, right primary cortex controls left hand. Primary motor cortex: directly controls the movements of the body, posterior. Sensory association cortex: receive information from the primary sense areas. Anterior region (front) is involved in movement related activities: planning and executing behaviours. Extraction of elements that make up an experience. Verbal activities (talking, understanding speech, reading, writing) Putting isolated elements together to perceive things as a whole.
