x DSM III included sexual disorders as a category
x Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder
o Little or no desire for sex
o Do not initiate in sexual activity or fantasy
o Not due to physiological problems
o Generalized sexual desire disorder: lack desire for all ppl.
o Situational sexual dersire disorder: lack desire only for their own partners
x Sexual aversion disorder
o Actively avoid sexual contact b/c it is anxiety inducing
Sexual Arousal Disorder
x Female: inability to attain or maintain the swelling lubrication response of sexual
excitement
o 20% prevalence rate
x Male: recurrent inability to maintain an erection until completion of sexual activity
o Life long form: never been able to sustain and maintain
o Acquired form: could in the past but can no longer now
o 4-9% prevalence rate
Orgasm Disorder
x female (anorgasmia): recurrent delay in or the complete absence of orgasm after
having reached the excitement phase
x most common among post-menstrual women
