PSYC 2650 Lecture Notes - Psycholinguistics, Behaviorism, Inuit
Document Summary
Methods might differ between the subareas of cognitive science when it comes to psycholinguistics. Linguistics is more theory based, where psycholinguistics is more practical (not would should people but what people actually do: everyday use) Economics is a mathematical theoretical world: cognition says you can"t assume people in economics will act rationally, however they will act systematically irrational. Linguistic judgements: asked about what you know about language (versus deciding what people know based on how they speak) Not mental (innate): when you"re young you learn language based on reward response. All languages have something in common: a set of universal rules that ties all languages together. Subvocal language: threshold where there electrical activity on vocal muscles when thinking sub threshold is thought. Not just voice muscles but brain activity too. Words are insignificant, extracting the meaning is what counts.
