Document Summary
Patricia why she was involved in the bank robbery. No matter what attributions, there are errors involved. Even more complex when talking about people in a different culture. Types of explanations: ability internal, task difficulty external, effort, luck. Cultures differ in which one of these are likely to be used and emphasized: use different explanations for success and failure. If you succeed, you find the reason within yourself. If you fail, you find the reasons out of yourself (ie. the prof had an accent) If you meet a samari and he asks if he can sleep with you, it is a showing of trust because he is willing to sleep in the same room with you: communication breakdown to our society. In individualistic cultures people tend to focus on the individual as determining the cause of behaviour: people attribute success to ability and failure to external factors.
