Regulation laws of a library:

Research Local Laws-

Use the internet to find out which laws apply to public library. Find two or three measurements to test. For example, how wide must a doorway to a library be to accommodate a wheelchair? How large must a restroom stall be? Where must fire alarms or light switches be placed? What about drinking fountains or sinks?

Measure the doorway, sink height, or other factors that you have chosen. Record your results and compare them to legal requirements.

The speech will be discussing about what’s in the bolded words above 👆🏼. You are comparing the laws to what they have in a library and if it meets the requirements. If it doesn’t tell the building owner why.

Pretend to write to the building owner of your community library. And explain what did or didn’t meet the standard requirements. 👇🏼

Create a short speech to send to the building owner of a library. Describe what you found. Explain why the regulation you chose is necessary. For instance, it doesn’t matter if a bathroom stall can accommodate a wheelchair if the only doorway to the bathroom is too narrow for the person to reach the stall. Using the informal presentation techniques you learned about in this unit, do your best to present your ideas in a professional way.

A question no public speaker ever wants to hear is "So what?" Yet speakers must answer this question as they prepare a speech. Putting yourself in the place of a listener and answering this question can help you focus on the needs of the audience. How does the "So what?" test help you predict listeners' wants, needs, and expectations? What other questions can speakers ask about audience expectations?

Generate a list of questions. Then discuss how focusing on communicating with the audience during the preparation and presentation of a speech can help speakers minimize anxiety. What steps can speakers take to focus on listeners? What can speakers learn from the nonverbal feedback live audiences?
