Attitudes formed by the central route guide behaviour. Undergrad students read a message about possible new exams at the university. Students reported their attitudes toward the exams, could sign petitions to oppose them, and volunteer their services to protest. Larger correlation between attitudes and relevant behaviour for high relevant group. When comprehensive exam coming in next year. Act more in accordance to their attitude when created under central route. Some people need to overthink/some don"t like to think. (eg. before a game, imagery of a game) = form favorable attitudes but did it through different processes. Attitudes formed by the central route are more resistant against counter-persuasion. In a second study, students attitudes were challenged a few minutes after they were created. Students high in need for cognition resisted the message attacking their new attitudes more than students low in need for cognition. High cognition resisted message attacking new attitudes.
