Mind-body dualism the belief that the mind is a spiritual entity not subject to physical laws that govern the body. Dualism: rene descartes (1596 1650): proposed that the mind and body interact through the pineal gland; although the mind was spiritual , non eternity material. Believes that at birth, the human mind is tabula rasa (a blank slate). Psychophysics the study of how psychologically experienced sensation depend on the characteristics of physical stimuli (perceive loudness of sound changes) Charles darwin evolution is the product of biological continuity between humans and other species; can gain insights of human behavior by studying other species. Structuralism the analysis of the mind in terms of its basic elements: wilhelm wundt (1832 1920): established the first experimental psychology laboratory at the university of leipzig (germany). He trained the first generation of scientific psychologist: wundt and titchener (his graduate student) both believed that the mind could be studied by breaking it down into its basic components.
